Night Market Summer 2024 | New York
“At the night market, the tensions between modernity and tradition, the culturally authentic and the kitschy, evaporate like sweat into the warm summer air.”

From July 22 - August 2, 2024, Civil Art and Christie’s ED&I Committee presented Night Market. The multifaceted program shined a light on the rich culture of the API and POC communities woven into the framework of New York City.

Night Market was inspired by marketplaces, which have historically served as rich social epicenters and important sites for cultural cross-pollination. Uniting a wide range of multi-ethnic, intergenerational artists who vary in theme, medium, and artistic practice, Night Market embraced and celebrated the discordance and vivacity of human experience.

Night Market consisted of a charitable auction, open for bidding online on Christie’s website, with an exhibition on view at Christie’s Rockefeller Center galleries. The exhibition and sale brought together the work of 34 artists, including Dabin Ahn, Liu Bolin, Brian Calvin, Susan Chen, Drew Dodge, Liang Fu, Dominique Fung, Shyama Golden, Asif Hoque, Zhang Huan, Greg Ito, Jin Jeong, Cheyenne Julien, Scott Kahn, Ho Jae Kim, KangHee Kim, Sung Hwa Kim, Hein Koh, Johnny Le, Sarah Lee, Yoora Lee, Tidawhitney Lek, Wanki Min, Reuben Paterson, Sahana Ramakrishnan, Bony Ramirez, Zayira Ray, Su Su, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Christine Tien Wang, Brittney Leeanne Williams, Mark Yang, and Yuri Yuan.

The fundraising auction realized a total of $233,272 with $177,200 of the proceeds supporting the participating artists, Civil Art, and Apex for Youth.
